Læyi Chyoli

Læyi Chyoli (/ˈlæji/ /ˈcoli/ [elusive] [hose; pipe]) is a subtropical Large Town located in Qājhàtlà County, Movovaz̄ado Provence, within the Dalandic Empire.

The name Læyi Chyoli is derived from the Wareneese language, as Læyi Chyoli was founded by Hèshi Brêpî Glesh, who was culturaly Wareneese.

Climate

Læyi Chyoli has a yearly average temperature of 29°C (84°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a blistering 34°C (93°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 25°C (77°F). Læyi Chyoli receives an average of 111 cm/y (43 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Læyi Chyoli covers an area of nearly 6 km² (2 mi²), and an average elevation of 480 m (1574 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Læyi Chyoli was founded durring the late 12th century in spring of the year 1091, by Hèshi Brêpî Glesh. The establishment of Læyi Chyoli was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Hèshi Brêpî Glesh struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Læyi Chyoli as a prison colony.

Læyi Chyoli was built using the conventions of Wareneese durring the late 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Læyi Chyoli is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Læyi Chyoli is buildings are grouped arround an odd layout of restrictive cobblestone streets, which seems to be based on an overlapping squair patern such that there are small squares at the cornor of every bigger square. Sometimes buildings exist in the smaller squaires, other times they are open spaces, or occupied by temporary structures. The town emploies a series of defencive earthworks, spikes, and fences to provide some protection against wild beasts and smaller groups of intelegent foes. Læyi Chyoli's minimaly adiquite are in an unremarkable state. To some, this is the ideal sate for defences to be in. In need of absoutly nothing, and ready to serve the town as needed.

A look around Læyi Chyoli is like a look into a broken heart. There is no planning, no organization. Everyone here clearly goes about their own thing with little thought to anyone around them who isn’t selling something they need. It’s not malicious. Heads are hung. Eyes are empty. Something truly horrible happened here once upon a time and the town never healed.

Civic Infrastructure

Læyi Chyoli has an animal control department which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the control, impoundment, and disposition of animals.

Læyi Chyoli has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Læyi Chyoli. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Læyi Chyoli's parks.

Læyi Chyoli has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Læyi Chyoli.

Læyi Chyoli has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Læyi Chyoli has a Guild of Nurses, which is tasked with caring for the elderly and infirm in accordance with local ordinances, religious values, and customs.

Læyi Chyoli has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Læyi Chyoli has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Læyi Chyoli's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Læyi Chyoli has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Læyi Chyoli's natural decorations nor waterways.

Læyi Chyoli has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Læyi Chyoli has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Læyi Chyoli's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is famous for its stately symmetry, classical elements, and grand appearance. Columns and pillars, such as Corinthian columns, are often seen supporting open structures or porticos. Symmetry is an important feature of this style, with each half of a building mirroring the other. Domed ceilings and windows grace these buildings, with everything placed in a mathematical arrangement.

In Læyi Chyoli there are no smells.

The Blood Hawk near Læyi Chyoli are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Læyi Chyoli's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves square dance to channel Abjuration energies of tier 1 via moments of science.

Economy

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Læyi Chyoli was attacked by soldiers from another nation, waging a greater campaign. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Læyi Chyoli lost 135 people, 371 livestock, and 88 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 53, when members of Læyi Chyoli's militia enacted an operation to secure a particular research site to utilize it for a specific task. The operation was complicated by major logistical problems. The conflict ended with an assault and siege on the research site, which ended in a stalemate for Læyi Chyoli's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Læyi Chyoli's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
